The City of Alburnett hosted a public forum on February 22, 2021, to receive feedback from residents regarding a proposed change to our library service contract. One of the city’s primary goals is to ensure fiscal responsibility for our residents and to review contracts on a regular basis.
The City of Alburnett currently contracts with the Metro Library Network to provide library services for an annual expense of $22,653.38, which will increase to $26,038.37 as the contract term continues. We have proposed a contract with Andersen Center Point Public Library for library services at a rate of $0.30/$1,000.00 of assessed taxable value, the minimum required by the Code of Iowa, §256.69, is approximately $0.07/$1,000.00.Based on current assessments, the annual cost would be approximately $8,180.99. This is an equitable rate to provide residents with excellent library service while maintaining a sustainable and responsible budgetary expense.
Below are links to the recording of the public forum and a copy of the information presented:
The City Council expects to discuss the library contract at our next meeting on March 8. Please contact city hall or any council member with questions or concerns.
